This series of collages combines visual elements that are unique to Jerusalem, which was my home from 1978-1990. I have returned many times, most recently for several months in spring 2023 when the country was abloom with colorful wildflowers. Jerusalem imagery is somehow imprinted on my soul, thus the reference to tattoo. I have long sought a way to express my feeling of connectedness to that special place, its doorways, intricate patterns, stone walkways, markets, arches, and of course, its magical light. I make the collages with a photo transfer process that produces translucent images, like “skins” that can then be combined in many ways, invoking a personal Jerusalem dreamscape.
